We are looking for an experienced in-house legal counsel to serve as Associate General Counsel – Business for Market Area North America at Ericsson. In this role, you will supervise a team and lead the business legal function for one of Ericsson’s largest and most strategic market areas, serving a diverse set of business and organizational units across North America.

You will also lead a high performing team of legal counsel and other legal professionals to provide strategic partnership with Ericsson’s business teams in the Market Area on corporate, transactional, regulatory, and compliance matters, working closely with other functions in the region and globally, including senior leadership.

 

This position reports directly to the Head of Legal Affairs - Market Area North America and will be located in Plano, Texas


Job Responsibilities -


In this role, you will:

  • Assist in the management of the legal, compliance and reputational risks of the Ericsson Group within Market Area North America (MANA).
  • Ensure the provision of efficient, effective, and timely legal counsel for the MA business on corporate, transactional, regulatory, and compliance matters.
  • Foster a culture of collaboration and proactive business partnership, working closely with MANA customer units, business domains, finance, sourcing, commercial management, and other MA and Group functions, including other members of Group Function Legal Affairs & Compliance (GFLA).
  • Manage and develop a team of lawyers and legal professionals handling corporate/transactional legal matters for MANA on both the customer and sourcing side of the business, to achieve desired business results in a manner that is consistent with Ericsson’s principles, policies, and guidelines and in compliance with relevant laws and regulations.
  • Ensure contracting excellence through best practices, to achieve desired business results in a manner that is consistent with Ericsson’s principles, policies, and guidelines.
  • Serve as an escalation point within the market area on transactional and other legal matters affecting the business. 
  • Structure, negotiate and draft legal documents and provide legal advice and client counseling to internal clients in complex matters.
  • Drive defined areas of expertise or projects, including developing and implementing legal policies and procedures and providing legal training.
  • Engage with and manage external counsel as needed.

Core/Critical Competencies -


To be successful in the role, you must have:

  • Significant experience advising a commercial organization on complex transactions and corporate, legal, regulatory and compliance matters.
  • Ability to exercise sound judgment and provide, defend and be accountable for legal and business advice to the business.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills; ability to build relationships and earn the respect and trust of others.
  • Ability to manage and inspire others.
  • Managerial courage to address challenges, invite diverse perspectives, challenge norms and processes, and provide innovative approaches that add value to the organization.
  • High ethical standards.
  • JD and/or LLM degree and admission (or eligibility for admission) to the Texas bar.
  • Ideally at least 15 years of legal experience through a combination of law firm and in-house practice, ideally in organizations of comparable scope, scale and/or complexity.
  • Understanding of information or communication technology or other relevant sector is preferred; ability to quickly understand Ericsson’s business is a must.
