Job Description


  • Develop and lead corporate legal strategy to promote and protect the company's interests.
  • Ensure the company’s compliance with all applicable laws and regulations, including real estate laws, zoning laws, environmental regulations, and employment laws.
  • Provide legal counsel to the board of directors, CEO, and other senior management on a broad range of legal and regulatory issues.
  • Oversee the drafting, review, and negotiation of all legal documents, including contracts for property acquisitions, sales, leases, joint ventures, and partnerships.
  • Ensure all contracts and legal documents are properly documented and comply with current laws and regulations.
  • Identify potential legal risks and develop strategies to mitigate these risks.
  • Conduct risk assessments and ensure appropriate risk management strategies are in place.
  • Manage and resolve legal disputes and litigation involving the company.
  • Ensure the company’s corporate governance policies and practices are robust and comply with regulatory requirements.
  • Advise on corporate governance issues and ensure the board of directors and management are informed about new laws, regulations, and industry trends affecting the business.
  • Oversee all legal aspects of real estate transactions, including acquisitions, dispositions, financing, leasing, and development projects.
  • Ensure thorough due diligence is conducted for all real estate transactions.
  • Lead, manage, and mentor the in-house legal team, ensuring effective performance and development.
  • Coordinate with external legal counsel as needed, managing these relationships and controlling legal costs.
  • Develop and implement company policies and procedures to ensure legal compliance and promote a culture of ethical business practices.
  • Provide training to the company’s employees on legal matters, policies, and compliance.


Requirements


  • Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school.
  • Admission to the state bar and in good standing.
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience practicing law, with a significant portion in real estate law.
  • Experience in a senior legal position, preferably as a General Counsel or Chief Legal Officer in a real estate company or related industry.
  • Proven track record of managing complex real estate transactions and legal issues.
  • Strong knowledge of real estate law, contract law, corporate law, and regulatory compliance.
  • Excellent negotiation, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Strategic thinker with strong problem-solving abilities.
  • Ability to work effectively with senior management and the board of directors.
  • Demonstrated leadership and team management skills.
  • High ethical standards and integrity.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines.
