Role Overview:

We are looking for a Head of Legal to help build, manage, and lead the legal team at Aeva. This person will oversee all legal and compliance activities across the business, from corporate governance to IP to negotiating complex business and commercial agreements. This hire will have the opportunity to build the legal department, scale the team, and develop processes and infrastructure while reducing reliance on outside counsel.

What you'll be doing:
  • Advising the CEO on a variety of legal and business issues
  • Develop and implement the mission for the legal department and set our legal strategy around the product, corporate, regulatory, and commercial opportunities
  • Partnering with the executives, sales, and business operations teams to manage risk and implement strategies related to agreements, commercial, etc
  • Partner with the internal Human Resource department around employment law and employment relation matters
  • Lead on behalf of legal to ensure compliance with federal securities laws and regulations, including preparation and filing of Forms 10-K, 10-Q, 8-K, proxy statements, and other SEC filings and reports
  • Coordinate and oversee relationships with external counsel and legal advisors


What you have:
  • 10+ years of combined professional legal experience at both a top-tier law firm and in-house head of counsel experience
  • Expertise in drafting and negotiating complex commercial business and supply agreements with a focus on hardware products and software features
  • Experience working on public company corporate security matters such as SEC filings, corporate governance, and complex transactions
  • Experience managing other attorneys in a growing legal department
  • High standard of ethics along with the ability to act with discretion, strict confidentiality, and sensitivity towards issues and individuals
  • Excellent communicator with the ability to explain your processes, logic, and decisions
  • Admittance to the bar in the state of California and in good standing or otherwise authorized to practice law (e.g., have registered in-house status)

$194,600 - $263,400 a year
Salary pay ranges are determined by role, level, and location. Within the range, the successful candidate’s starting base pay will be determined based on factors including job-related skills, experience, certifications, qualifications, relevant education or training, and market conditions. These ranges are subject to change in the future.

Depending on the position offered, equity, bonus, and other forms of compensation may be provided as part of a total compensation package, in addition to comprehensive medical, dental, and vision coverage, pre-tax commuter and health care/dependent care accounts, 401k plan, life and disability benefits, flexible time off, paid parental leave, and 11 paid holidays annually.
