As Conversational Marketing & Commerce is rising up as the biggest disruption for merchants and brands since eCommerce, legal challenges follow.


charles, our clients, their customers and the whole Conversational Marketing community need legal safety and clarity when it comes to conversations, transactions and relationships in messenger apps. Not only does this extend to contractual frameworks, and diverse in-house counsel, but also to data and privacy questions, product development and a constant support of our (future) clients during their journey with us.


charles deeply cares about their concerns and questions and by resolving those, you as our Head of Legal will lay the legal foundation of cCom-growth. In this role, you will be the charles Legal generalist advising a range of stakeholders on their relevant topics.


  • Overseeing the contractual relationship with our clients and partners by setting up and constantly developing our commercial agreements, T&Cs, DPAs and associated agreements
  • Having full ownership of all legal aspects at charles, with special focus on our data privacy strategy and its day-to-day compliance, thereby driving a central pillar of our positioning
  • You will enable others by collaborating with our marketing, sales and success department in all legal questions and communication needed for commercial growth
  • Supporting the development of our Software, challenge processes to hold up against our and industry compliance and security standards, secure our IP and discuss new features that will influence compliance of a product that will empower millions of conversations and transactions between companies and consumers globally
  • Developing a high understanding of our business to support our Enterprise strategy in negotiations by covering other party questions and drafting, revising, and negotiate commercial contracts
  • Being a central part of our funding rounds covering any corporate legal topics with our boards of VCs such as Accel, Salesforce Ventures, and HV Capital in collaboration with our Founders
  • Building the legal foundation for our employee relationships and providing advise on best practises in a range of employment related topics
  • Co-drive audits for ISO 27001, SOC-2 or from customer’s directly

YOU'LL FIT GREAT WITH THESE SKILLS AND VALUES


  • Fully qualified lawyer with the first and second German Staatsexamen, ideally with "Prädikat"
  • Previous experience in/with/against large law firms or fast-growing B2B scale up and mastered a highly competitive environment with gold standard execution
  • Knowledge of technical software architecture and the world we operate in: how integrations work, how data flows and where possible security issues could arise
  • Experience in commercial contracts, with a focus on GDPR, Data, IT and know your way around typical legal issues of those areas
  • Experience with IT security standards (ISO 27001, SOC-2) and audits
  • Ability to manage a diverse and complex workload while identifying correct internal and external partners to achieve business objectives
  • You're able to generate trust with understanding and active listening skills.
  • Fluency in German and English and are able to communicate effectively and break down complex legal situations for a wide variety of audiences
